“Don’t say maybe if you want to say no.” -Paul Coehlo
This two letter word is probably the hardest concept for me to grasp. Why?
I want to say yes to everyone. It’s because I want everyone to be happy. Deep down, I want to be the reason everyone is happy. (I know what you’re thinking. Wow, that is really selfish and prideful. I know. I didn’t say it was okay.)
However, I need to learn to say no. Sometimes it’s okay to say no. You can love people and say “no” to them. In fact, it may help them in the long run to say no. It does not mean you are a bad person. It just means you cannot do everything for everyone. And that’s okay.
No one expects you to be able to do everything. No one should; that’s not realistic or attainable. You should live your life loving people and trying to help them with your skills and abilities. The super cool thing is that you have talents and capabilities that no one else in the world has. Think about that.
So I want to challenge myself (and you) to something. Learn when you need to say no, and say it. (It’s not as simple as it seems.)
Until next time,
